Dhaka:Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has declared that the ongoing eviction drives to clear footpaths of illegal encroachments will continue until all such structures are removed.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the DNCC administrator made these comments during a two-phase eviction operation in Section 1 of Mirpur, Dhaka. The operation aimed at removing illegal structures from footpaths and was conducted in the morning and afternoon.
The administrator emphasized that clearing the footpaths has been a persistent demand from residents of Mirpur, including Shah Ali, Darus Salam, and neighboring wards. Khan assured the city residents that the initiative is part of a promise to clear every footpath of encroachments.
Khan highlighted that unscrupulous hawkers and encroachers have long occupied roads and footpaths, depriving city residents of their right to walk freely. He noted that both ordinary citizens and leaders of various market committees have frequently raised complaints regarding this issue. Khan also stressed the moral obligation to ensure public access to footpaths.
Referring to the vision of a 'Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka,' Khan stated that no efforts to obstruct the initiative would be tolerated. He also mentioned that any conspiracy to undermine the people's mandate or bypass law enforcement would not succeed. Similar strategies to clear roads and footpaths are planned systematically across Dhaka.
The operation was executed by a mobile court led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Akter Nelly, with support from police, DNCC officials, and local residents. The DNCC administration reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public mobility and protecting footpaths, while seeking cooperation from city residents.
