Chattogram:Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Administrator Dr. Shahadat Hossain has emphasized the need for uninterrupted dialysis services at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). He called for the collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure that the essential service continues, allowing patients to receive affordable treatment without interruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Hossain stated that the CCC is prepared to offer financial assistance if necessary to maintain the dialysis services at CMCH. He made these remarks during the inauguration of a new study lounge and prayer hall for female residents at the Kanta Students' Residence of Chattogram Medical College.
Dr. Hossain assured that efforts are being made to prevent any disruption in the dialysis center's operations. He highlighted the commitment of hospital authorities, the medical college principal, and others involved in ensuring that patient care remains a priority. He also mentioned the possibility of the City Corporation providing financial support if central resources are insufficient.
Looking ahead, Dr. Hossain revealed that CMCH aims to establish its independent dialysis service by June-July 2027, which he views as a significant development in advancing patient care. He addressed students, advocating for comprehensive development in educational institutions through maintenance, cleanliness, and student engagement.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Jasim Uddin, Principal of the college, with Brigadier General Taslim Uddin, Director of CMCH, and Professor Dr. Anisul Hossain, Vice-Principal of the college, participating as special guests.
In response to the increasing number of kidney patients, a 10-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement was signed in 2017 with Sandor Dialysis Services Limited, an Indian healthcare provider. The company operates 31 dialysis machines at CMCH, but with the government's failure to renew the contract, the company is set to wind down operations starting Thursday. Patients currently receiving treatment have voiced their concerns, holding a press conference at the Chattogram Press Club to demand the continuation of the service.
