Dhaka:Opener Shadman Islam was left stranded on 99 runs as bad light ended the first day of the first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies prematurely at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, with Bangladesh taking control of the match.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shadman struck 10 fours in a patient innings, helping Bangladesh recover from an early setback. The hosts reached 213-3 when play was called off, with Shadman unbeaten on 99 and Liton Das on 10.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's decision to bat first paid off as Shadman displayed composure against a disciplined West Indies bowling attack. New ball bowlers Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph initially put pressure on the Bangladesh openers, leading to Tanzid Hasan Tamim's dismissal for 7. Shadman, however, resisted and rebuilt the innings alongside Mominul Haque, contributing to a 59-run partnership.

Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican dismissed Mominul for 28 and later removed Shanto for 19 after a successful leg-before-wicket review. Shadman, reaching his 10th Test half-century, found support in Towhid Hridoy, who contributed 42 runs before leaving the field due to cramps.

Despite interruptions due to bad light, Shadman continued to accumulate runs steadily, only to be denied his century as play was abandoned. Warrican was the most successful bowler for West Indies, with figures of 2-33.
