Dhaka:Medical examinations for Bangladeshi workers aiming to work in Malaysia are set to begin on October 31 at designated medical centres.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, medical tests conducted prior to October 31 will not be accepted and will not qualify for immigration clearance. An official list of authorized medical centres will be made available on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment's website shortly.

The ministry emphasized that medical centres could be added or removed from the list based on their adherence to official guidelines and their ability to provide the necessary services. They also warned that no medical centre or recruiting agency is permitted to conduct or organize medical examinations without the ministry's explicit instructions and approval.

Reports have surfaced indicating that some brokers and unauthorized recruiting agencies are attempting to collect passports and money from workers by offering unauthorized medical examinations. Workers are advised not to engage with such offers or surrender their passports or money without verifying the legitimacy of the medical centre or agency.

Recruiting agencies seeking clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) must submit relevant documents, including VDR visa papers, for medical examinations at authorized centres until further notice. The ministry cautioned that any medical centres or recruiting agencies failing to comply with these instructions will face legal consequences under current laws and regulations.

Potential penalties for violations include the suspension of medical centre operations, the suspension of overseas recruitment activities by the offending agencies, and the revocation of ministry approval. Workers are encouraged to report any unauthorized medical examinations or related incidents, with supporting evidence, to [email protected]. Monitoring efforts will continue to enforce compliance.
