Dhaka:The second-shift academic activities at 25 government technical schools and colleges across the country have been temporarily suspended starting from the next academic year due to extremely low student enrollment.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made following an evaluation of the overall situation at these educational institutions, as stated in an official order issued by the Directorate of Technical Education. The assessment revealed that student enrollment in the second shifts at these institutions has not been satisfactory over the past three years, with some schools and colleges registering no enrollment at all. Additionally, enrollment in the first shifts at these institutions has also been notably low.

The order stipulates that the second-shift academic activities at the affected institutions will remain suspended temporarily, with the possibility of reopening these shifts in the future if student enrollment increases. Furthermore, personnel currently working in the second shifts at these 25 institutions will be transferred or reassigned to other institutions where second-shift classes continue, in order to maintain the quality of teaching.

The government technical schools and colleges where second-shift activities have been suspended are located in Joypara, Tangail, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Bhairab, Bandarban, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Narail, Hosenabad, Jhenaidah, Sherpur, Moulvibazar, Naogaon, Natore, Joypurhat, and Sirajganj.
