Dhaka:The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has removed more than 100 illegal shops and structures from footpaths near the Dhaka Trade Center and Fulbaria Supermarket in Gulistan, Dhaka. This operation was carried out to clear pedestrian pathways and ensure safe and uninterrupted movement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the eviction drive lasted three hours, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and utilized heavy machinery, including loaders. The operation was supported by four DSCC executive magistrates, over 100 eviction workers, and six platoons of police.
The DSCC stated that the initiative aims to restore order on roads and footpaths and that monitoring will continue to prevent the re-establishment of illegal structures. Goods and equipment were confiscated from the evicted sites during the operation.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam, who oversaw the operation, issued a warning that individuals reoccupying the roads or footpaths would face both confiscation of their goods and potential arrest. He emphasized that hawkers would only be allowed to operate in designated footpaths, night markets, and holiday markets. Moreover, the road from Gulistan to Sadarghat is to be kept clear, prohibiting hawkers from operating on the main road.
