Dhaka:A resilient half-century by opener Shadman Islam propelled Bangladesh to a solid 177-3 at tea on the first day of the opening Test against West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shadman remained unbeaten on 79 as he approached his century, partnering with Towhid Hridoy, who contributed 36 runs. Together, they have added 67 runs in their unbroken fourth-wicket stand.

Bangladesh lost only one wicket in the post-lunch session, limiting West Indies' progress. West Indies' new ball bowlers, Jayden Seals and Shamar Joseph, initially troubled the Bangladeshi openers with their probing deliveries. Tanzid Hasan Tamim fell to their strategy, edging to second slip on 7.

However, Shadman held his ground, avoiding risky shots outside the off stump. He and Mominul Haque, who scored 28 off 51 balls, managed a 59-run partnership before Mominul was dismissed by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican. Warrican also claimed the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto for 19 following a successful leg-before review.

Shadman's disciplined play included his 10th overall and fourth half-century against West Indies, achieved in 95 balls. His important partnership with Hridoy has so far kept Bangladesh in a favorable position.
