Dhaka:Police have demolished a drug den constructed within illegally erected shanties at the Ghuntighor area near Gendaria Railway Station in the old part of the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was led by Gendaria Police Station's officer in charge, Moniruzzaman Khan. The police conducted a nearly two-hour raid starting at 1130 am, using a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) wheel loader to raze the makeshift shanties that served as a drug den.
The shanties had been blocking a thoroughfare in the Ghuntighor area, and the raid simultaneously reopened the road for vehicular movement. DSCC representatives, a former councilor, and local residents assisted the police during the operation.
Previously, on October 19, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and the Special Response Battalion (SRB), which is the renamed form of RAB, conducted an operation in the same area, detaining 14 suspected drug peddlers.
