Dhaka:The Kabiyal Sahitya Award will be presented tomorrow at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. The event aims to honor distinguished contributors to Bengali literature and culture.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ekushey Padak recipient Gaziul Hasan Khan, poet Subrata Pal, and poet Junan Nashit have been nominated for this prestigious award. The Kabiyal Foundation will host the awards at the Kabiyal Utsab-2026, scheduled to commence at 4 pm.

The festival has been organized with the goal of preserving Bengali folk culture, particularly focusing on the traditional art of kobigaan (poetic duels) and indigenous heritage. It also seeks to introduce these cultural traditions to the younger generation.

Khondoker M Mortazul Karim, chairman of the Bangladesh NGO Foundation, will serve as the chief guest for the programme. The festival will be inaugurated by retired Supreme Court justice Mir Hasmat Ali. Former Additional Inspector General of Police Sarder Tamijuddin Ahmed will participate as the keynote speaker.

Kabiyal Foundation Governor Bappi Saha is set to deliver the welcome address, while Professor Dr M Nazrul Islam Tamiji, the foundation's central chairman, will preside over the programme. The organizers believe the festival will enhance interest in indigenous folk culture, kobigaan, and literary activities, encouraging young people to preserve the country's local cultural heritage.
