Mymensingh:Jamaat-e-Islami's opposition to Bangladesh's independence in 1971 stemmed from flawed political judgment, stated BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince. He addressed the issue while speaking at the inauguration of the late Riaz Uddin Talukder Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament at Taldighi ground in Tarakanda.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prince criticized Jamaat's political decisions, which he believes facilitated the Awami League's rise to power in 1996. He warned that similar political missteps could once again allow the Awami League to dominate the political landscape. Prince emphasized that BNP's political strategy focuses on maintaining strong ties with the Bangladeshi people, rather than foreign entities, as the party's power is derived from its citizens.
Prince also addressed a statement by Jamaat's secretary general, stating that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's comments were based on political experience and intelligence, aiming to alert the public. He urged citizens to stay united and vigilant against efforts to destabilize the nation and disrupt its democratic framework through political conspiracies.
Highlighting the BNP government's sports initiatives, Prince mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had introduced measures to help students engage in sports professionally. Sports are set to be part of the curriculum from Class IV, with a playground designated in each union. Sports festivals are planned across the country to encourage athletic development.
Prince stressed the importance of functional playgrounds at the union and village levels to nurture new talent and provide opportunities for promising athletes. The event was attended by Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukder and Tarakanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam, among others.
