Chandpur:A significant operation led by Chandpur-3 MP Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik on Thursday successfully reclaimed approximately 400 acres of agricultural and government khas land from illegal occupiers in the Ibrahimpur union of Chandpur Sadar upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the daylong joint drive focused on the Mukhaddi and Chaltatoli areas, where an influential gang had unlawfully created nearly 50 fish enclosures on both ancestral and government lands, selling the extracted topsoil to brick kilns. During the operation, authorities seized an excavator and dismantled embankments to release farmed fish back into the Meghna River.
S M N Jamiul Hikma, the Chandpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, noted that the administration had previously conducted nearly 40 operations, but the perpetrators often resumed their illegal activities during adverse river weather conditions. In response, three cases have been filed against 48 individuals, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend those involved.
In terms of future plans, MP Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik announced the intention to develop a planned solar power project on the reclaimed land to protect agricultural resources. Additionally, he assured that government khas land would be distributed to local landless farmers following official guidelines.
The drive was supported by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Protoy Hashem, police personnel, and local political leaders, who were present to oversee the operation.
