Dhaka:Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) has urged for the effective enforcement of traffic laws, enhancement of driver skills, identification and repair of risky roads, and accountability of relevant organizations to mitigate the risk of fatalities and disabilities resulting from road accidents.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this appeal was made during a vibrant rally and a brief meeting held in the capital on National Road Safety Day 2026. The rally, organized by NISCHA, started at 11 am from their central office in Kakrail and concluded at the National Press Club.
Advisers, life members, central committee leaders of NISCHA, road safety experts, and activists from various district and upazila branches participated in the rally. Representatives from Shobar Jonno Bangladesh, Bangladesh Cycle Lane, and NISCHA branches from Munshiganj, Dhaka, Dhamrai, Palash, Narayanganj, Louhajang, Shibpur, Savar, and Thakurgaon also joined. Participants emphasized establishing road discipline, adhering to laws, ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers, and raising public awareness to prevent accidents.
During the meeting at the National Press Club, NISCHA leaders expressed that road accidents are not unavoidable and can be reduced through planned initiatives, proper law enforcement, creating skilled drivers, and promoting responsible road behavior. They stressed that road safety should be a coordinated national priority rather than an isolated program.
NISCHA called for the stringent enforcement of road safety laws and rules, recommending regular and impartial action against traffic violations, such as dangerous speeding, wrong-way driving, risky overtaking, and irregularities related to vehicle documentation and fitness. They also highlighted the need for improved driver training and licensing processes, focusing on drivers' skills and physical fitness.
NISCHA emphasized regular fitness checks of all passenger and goods vehicles and continuous monitoring to prevent defective and unfit vehicles from operating. The theme for this year's National Road Safety Day is "Safe Roads, Prosperous Country, Bangladesh First," urging citizens to adhere to road laws, drive safely, and respect others' rights and safety on the road.
