Bogura:State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shahe Alam, declared today that the government will refrain from interfering in the forthcoming local government elections. His statement was made during a public gathering where he served as the chief guest, following the inauguration of a temporary office for the newly formed Sarnagram Union Parishad and the foundation stone laying of Moydanhatta Union Parishad in Shibganj upazila of Bogura.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections. He assured that people would have the freedom to vote for their preferred candidates without any obstruction. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is prepared to take a firm stance to maintain the party's reputation and discipline if necessary.
Shahe Alam further stated that law enforcement agencies would adopt a strict approach during the elections, ensuring accountability irrespective of party affiliation in case of any disorder. He urged support for BNP-backed candidates, asserting that their election would facilitate development in rural areas. Additionally, he mentioned the BNP government's plans to construct 151-bed hospitals in every upazila and to implement programs like the Family Card and Farmer Card initiatives.
The state minister also criticized Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing them of misleading people with promises of paradise and described their members as "seasonal politicians" due to their participation in religious and political events. Furthermore, he accused the party of spreading misinformation about oil and gas during long marches. Shahe Alam also criticized the Awami League, claiming it does not engage with the public for votes, unlike the BNP, which he said consistently returns to the people to address their concerns.
Notable attendees at the event included Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman, Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman, and various BNP leaders. The gathering concluded with the state minister planting a tree and inaugurating a waste-transportation van.
