Rajshahi:Interns at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) began a 24-hour work abstention on Wednesday morning, advocating for a five-point demand which includes addressing shortages of medical supplies and ensuring their security.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr. Mushfiqur Rahman, the general secretary of the hospital's Intern Doctors Society, stated that the interns initiated the work abstention at 8 a.m. He highlighted that the inpatient wards at the hospital are experiencing a severe shortage of essential medicines and medical equipment.

He further explained that the unrestricted entry of patients' attendants and the negligence of Ansar members on duty are frequently putting intern doctors in uncomfortable situations and exposing them to collective threats. Additionally, the closure of the hospital's observation room and casualty department has exacerbated the pressure on inpatient wards, forcing doctors to provide treatment with limited manpower and medical supplies.

Dr. Mushfiqur also mentioned that although the hospital authorities have repeatedly assured that they would resolve these issues, no effective measures have been implemented. This lack of action has compelled the interns to resort to a work abstention.
