Jashore:State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit has expressed optimism that Bangladesh could generate 3,000-4,000 megawatts of solar power before the arrival of next summer, amid an increasing public interest in renewable energy sources.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister shared this goal while inaugurating a six-kilowatt solar power system at the Jashore District BNP office. This installation marks the first instance of a political office in the country adopting such a system. The solar power setup was fully funded by the district BNP office, and it includes provisions to supply excess electricity to the national grid after fulfilling its own requirements.
The initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to provide policy support for solar power, thereby encouraging small-scale entrepreneurs and creating employment opportunities. Amit anticipates that the investment in the solar system will be recouped within three to three and a half years. He also hopes this initiative will inspire other political parties to consider installing solar panels at their respective offices.
Additionally, Amit discussed plans to gradually convert irrigation pumps to solar power. This transition aims to reduce reliance on diesel and electricity, ultimately lowering production costs for farmers. After the inauguration, the minister inspected preparations for the immersion of Durga idols at Lal Dighi Pond in Jashore town, which is part of the Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
The event was attended by Jashore District BNP President Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, and other local BNP leaders, along with representatives of its affiliated organizations.
