Rangamati:Local rights groups have announced that an indefinite road blockade will resume on the Sajek tourist road in Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati from Thursday, October 22, due to unmet demands. Organizers confirmed the decision on Wednesday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the blockade is being organized by the Sajek Karbari Association and the Sajek Gono Odhikar Rokkha Committee. Leaders Notun Joy Chakma and Babudhon Chakma have urged tourists currently in Sajek to leave by Wednesday for their safety.

The blockade initially started on October 11 with three demands, including the removal of armed members of the JSS (Santu) group within 48 hours. While it was temporarily suspended after local administration assurances, the demands remain unmet. The blockade briefly resumed on October 15 and was again suspended from October 16 to 21 for Durga Puja.

Organizers allege ongoing intimidation by armed JSS members in several areas, which has displaced over a hundred villagers and hindered Jum farmers' work. However, certain vehicles, including ambulances and fire services, will be exempt from the blockade.
