Jashore:State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit expressed optimism on Wednesday that Bangladesh could generate 3,000-4,000 megawatts of solar power before the upcoming summer. This projection is based on increasing public interest in solar energy.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Amit shared these remarks while addressing journalists after the inauguration of a solar power system at the Jashore district BNP office. The new system, featuring a 6-kilowatt solar panel, aligns with the Prime Minister’s policy on solar power generation.

The solar power system at the BNP office was funded independently by the office, with provisions to supply surplus electricity to the national grid after fulfilling its own energy requirements. The state minister mentioned that the installation costs for the system are expected to be recuperated within three to three-and-a-half years.

Amit also expressed hope that this initiative would motivate other political parties to adopt solar panels at their offices. He emphasized the government's support for solar power, which is fostering opportunities for small entrepreneurs and generating employment. Furthermore, he highlighted plans to convert irrigation pumps to solar power, aiming to alleviate the pressure on diesel and electricity supplies and reduce production costs for farmers. The event was attended by local BNP leaders and members of its associate bodies.
