Accra:The Land Minister, Mizanur Rahman Minu, has issued a stern warning against any irregularities in the leasing of government-owned water bodies. He urged the relevant authorities to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability in managing these resources.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while presiding over the 92nd meeting of the Committee on Leasing Government Water Reservoirs (Jalmahals) for Development Projects at the Land Ministry's conference room. The minister highlighted the benefits of an open and online-based leasing system, which aims to support genuine fishermen's cooperative associations. This system is expected to boost the country's fish production and contribute significantly to the economy.

State Minister for Land, Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, who spoke as the special guest, emphasized the importance of ensuring that marginalized and genuine fishermen face no barriers in participating in the leasing process.

During the meeting, proposals for 34 government-owned water bodies were discussed, including those in Moulvibazar, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Kushtia. After a thorough review, the decision was made to lease 25 of these water bodies for six years to facilitate development projects.
