Baghdad:Bangladesh has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the international community to maintain pressure on Myanmar to ensure the safe, dignified, and sustainable return of the Rohingya to their homeland.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir made this appeal during the 52nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq, where he led the Bangladesh delegation. He emphasized the importance of active involvement by OIC member states in addressing the prolonged Rohingya crisis and the necessity of creating conditions favorable for their return to Myanmar.
Kobir highlighted the need for the Muslim Ummah to show unity and take proactive steps towards finding a sustainable solution to the humanitarian crisis. He urged OIC member states and the international community to continue diplomatic engagements and apply sustained pressure on Myanmar authorities to facilitate the voluntary, safe, and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas.
In his address, Kobir also called for a stronger, more dynamic OIC capable of effectively responding to emerging challenges in the Muslim world. He stressed the importance of enhancing the organization's institutional capacity and collective responsiveness to regional and global crises.
Expressing concern over the situation in Palestine, Kobir called for an immediate cessation of Israeli actions against Palestinian civilians, particularly women and children, and reiterated Bangladesh's support for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. He also voiced concerns about the rise of Islamophobia worldwide, urging OIC member states to adopt a coordinated approach to counter it and promote mutual respect and understanding among communities.
This year's ministerial meeting holds significant importance as ongoing conflicts in the Middle East continue to affect global peace, stability, and supply chains.
