Rangpur:The Sanatan community in Rangpur has commenced their Durga Puja celebrations, marking the start of their largest religious festival with enthusiasm and joy. The festivities kicked off with the traditional 'Bodhan' ceremony at 964 puja mandaps set up across the district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local authorities, including police and the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), have coordinated efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration. The Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) and district police have implemented a four-tier security system, deploying officers, SRB-13, and Ansar-VDP members, with additional CCTV surveillance, mobile patrols, and check posts at key intersections.

The five-day festival will culminate on October 20 with the 'Bijoya Dashami' parade and the immersion of goddess Durga's idols in local rivers. Local BPUP leaders have organized various cultural events at the mandaps, including devotional music, clothing distribution, and 'arati' competitions.

RpMP Commissioner Md Habibur Rashid and other officials have been actively visiting the mandaps to oversee the arrangements and extend greetings to the community. Community members, including Bimal Roy and Sanjoy Ghosh, have expressed satisfaction with the security measures, anticipating a smooth celebration.
