Dhaka:Two retired officers of the Bangladesh Army have been sent to jail by a Dhaka court after their bail petitions were canceled. This decision follows a four-day remand in connection with a case involving alleged anti-state conspiracy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accused are retired Lieutenant Colonel Bijoy Debasish Narayan Pal, 47, and retired Lieutenant Kazi Gulshan Ara, 43. Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan ordered their detention as the investigation continues.
The case, filed by Detective Branch Police Inspector Ali Akbar on October 12 at Pallabi Police Station, cites provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance, and the Cyber Security Ordinance. It alleges that the two were part of anti-government WhatsApp groups and engaged in activities like raising funds and distributing digital content that incited violence through social media.
The first information report also mentions their involvement with a platform called "Unity Care and Public Parliament," which allegedly maintained connections with former Army Chief General (retd) Abdul Aziz, a former home minister, and fugitive senior leaders. The report accuses them of trying to revive the banned Awami League's activities and conspiring against the state by operating a social media page aimed at inciting violence and instability.
