Dhaka:The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has developed 79 standards specifically for solar power systems to promote affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly energy usage. This initiative was announced in a press release ahead of World Standards Day, which will be observed tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these standards have been formulated to ensure the durability, efficiency, and quality of solar panels, inverters, charge controllers, and batteries. Regular updates align these standards with international benchmarks.
BSTI's headquarters features a solar panel testing laboratory equipped with a modern German-made sun simulator capable of testing solar panels with a capacity of up to 1,000 watts. The laboratory adheres to international guidelines, using standard light sources and measuring instruments to evaluate the performance and quality of solar panels.
This year's World Standards Day theme is "Shared Vision for a Better World Affordable and Clean Energy," which resonates with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7. This goal aims to provide access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
The press release also highlighted the importance of optimal energy usage alongside production in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for a common vision and collective efforts to achieve this goal. BSTI has developed a total of 4,631 Bangladesh Standards to date.
To commemorate World Standards Day, BSTI will host a discussion meeting at the Officers Club Dhaka, with Industries, Commerce and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, MP, attending as the chief guest. Special guests include Industries Secretary Abdun Naser Khan and Professor Dr. SM Abdul-Awal, Principal Coordinator for SDGs at the Prime Minister's Office. The keynote address will be delivered by FBCCI Administrator Md Fazlul Haque, with BSTI Director General Kazi Imdadul Haque chairing the meeting.
BSTI has also organized additional activities such as discussion meetings, awareness campaigns, special media programs, and message dissemination through mobile phones at its headquarters and regional offices to mark the day.
