Dhaka:Firefighters successfully controlled a blaze at Manjur Khan Plaza in Chawkbazar, Dhaka, early today after more than 12 hours of intense efforts.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire, which started on the sixth floor of the seven-storey building near AC Mosque in Chhota Katra, was reported to the Fire Service and Civil Defence at 504 pm on Monday. It took until 520 am the following day for the fire to be brought under control.

Lt Col Md Mahmudul Hasan, director of operations and maintenance of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated that ten Fire Service units were involved in the operation. The fire originated in a godown on the building's sixth floor, affecting several storerooms containing cosmetics, electronic goods, and umbrellas.

Thick black smoke hampered the firefighting efforts, and two firefighters suffered smoke-related injuries, requiring hospital treatment. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are still being assessed, though no casualties have been reported.
