Chattogram:The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has imposed fines totaling Tk 53,000 on three establishments located outside Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the establishments were penalized for various violations, including the sale of green coconuts at excessive prices, possession of unauthorized Indian medicines, and maintaining unhygienic food service conditions. The enforcement action was conducted by Md. Fayez Ullah, Deputy Director of the Directorate's Chattogram office, with the assistance of Assistant Director Md. Anisur Rahman, other directorate officials, and law enforcement personnel.

During the operation, Raisha Medical Hall received a fine of Tk 40,000 for its stock of unauthorized Indian medicines and expired drugs. Bhandari Hotel was fined Tk 10,000 due to its unhygienic food service practices. Additionally, a trader named Nayan, aged 42, was fined Tk 3,000 for overcharging customers for green coconuts and failing to provide purchase vouchers.

Deputy Director Fayez Ullah highlighted that unauthorized Indian injections without Drug Registration (DR) numbers were discovered at Raisha Medical Hall. These injections were reportedly used for treating heart disease and poisoning cases. He emphasized that there are already approved medicines for these conditions available in Bangladesh, and the sale of unregistered medicines poses risks of counterfeit and ineffective treatments.
