Dhaka:A comprehensive three-tier security system has been established nationwide to ensure the peaceful and safe celebration of Sharidiya Durga Puja.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir announced the security measures during a meeting on law and order at the Police Headquarters in the capital. The meeting focused on preparing for Durga Puja 2026, which is a significant religious festival for the Hindu community.
The IGP emphasized the necessity for robust security throughout the pre-Puja period, the festival itself, the idol immersion, and post-Puja activities. He stressed the importance of vigilance to prevent any disruptions to social harmony during the celebrations.
To maintain communal harmony, the IGP encouraged public engagement through community and beat policing initiatives. He expressed optimism that, through collective efforts, the festival would be celebrated safely and joyfully, as in previous years.
Police officials have been instructed to act promptly against any attempts to disturb communal harmony via misinformation, propaganda, or provocative social media content. Field-level officers were directed to maintain communication with local communities and perform regular visits to Puja mandaps for security oversight.
Puja organisers are advised to contact the national emergency service or local police for any security issues. They are also encouraged to keep CCTV cameras operational, ensure adequate lighting, and deploy volunteers for constant vigilance at Puja sites.
Uniformed and plainclothes police personnel will be present throughout the celebrations, supported by specialised units such as SWAT and bomb disposal teams, ready to respond to emergencies. Monitoring cells at Police Headquarters and other units will operate round-the-clock during the festival.
Representatives from Hindu religious and cultural organisations expressed satisfaction with these security arrangements, acknowledging the efforts of the government and police administration.
Senior police officials, Hindu organisation representatives, Puja committee members, and other stakeholders participated in the meeting, with additional police leaders joining virtually. This year, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 33,000 Puja mandaps across the country.
