Madaripur:Press Institute Bangladesh's fact-checking body, BanglaFact, has debunked a false claim regarding a viral video alleged to show an assault on the mother of a banned Chhatra League leader.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the investigation by BanglaFact revealed that the video, which gained attention on social media, was misrepresented. It claimed to show the mother of the vice-president of the banned Chhatra League's Savar district unit being assaulted, but this was not the case.
The fact-checkers determined that the video actually depicted a family dispute at the Madaripur Judge Court. The video was initially published on August 24 on the Facebook page of the Dainik Sokal online news portal. Its headline suggested a clash between a son-in-law and his mother-in-law at the court.
An identical video with the same information appeared on the Facebook page of Barta Mail. BanglaFact confirmed that the claims circulating about an assault on the mother of the banned Chhatra League leader were misleading and entirely false.
BanglaFact continues its efforts to combat misinformation and provide accurate information to the public in Bangladesh.
