Brisbane:Despite a record-breaking century from Sobhana Mostary, Bangladesh faced a nine-wicket defeat to Australia in the second ODI at Allan Border Field.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victory secured an unassailable 2-0 lead for Australia in the three-match series, rendering the upcoming third match inconsequential. Bangladesh's performance was highlighted by Sobhana Mostary's impressive 118 off 134 balls, featuring 18 boundaries. This innings marked the highest individual score and the highest boundary runs by a female Bangladeshi batter.

Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty contributed with an unbeaten 74, partnering with Sobhana for a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket. This partnership set a new record for Bangladesh against any team, surpassing the previous best of 152 runs by Joty and Sharmin Akter Supta. However, Bangladesh was ultimately bowled out for 220-6 as no other batters reached double digits, struggling particularly against Megan Schutt, who claimed 4-36 and effected a run-out.

Australia's chase was spearheaded by Georgia Voll with a commanding 131 not out off 97 balls, including 19 fours. Voll and opener Phoebe Litchfield shared a 162-run partnership, bringing Australia close to victory. Although Litchfield was dismissed for 70 off 51 balls by Shorna Akter, Voll and Ellyse Perry, who remained not out on 19, comfortably achieved the target, finishing at 222-1 in 28.1 overs.

The final match of the series will be played on Wednesday at the same venue.
