Siena:Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), cautioned party leaders and activists against prioritizing personal benefits over their long-standing political efforts. He emphasized that maintaining public trust through tolerance and responsible behavior is crucial for the party's success.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi made these comments during a commemorative meeting for the 10th death anniversary of former minister and BNP National Standing Committee member Brig Gen (retd) A S M Hannan Shah. He urged party members to focus on the broader responsibilities of the BNP and the government, rather than personal gains such as fertiliser dealerships and government contracts.
Rizvi highlighted the achievements of the BNP government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, noting the hardships overcome to secure a fair election victory. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the government in providing essential services amidst gas and electricity shortages, but praised the gradual improvements being made.
He called on party leaders to uphold the government's good image and sincerity in governance, urging MPs to maintain peace and stability in their constituencies. Rizvi also warned against the corrupt practices of previous regimes and stressed that the BNP is committed to peace, stability, and the rule of law.
Rizvi mentioned the arrest of two retired army officers suspected of sabotage, urging vigilance among party members, particularly during the upcoming Durga Puja. He concluded by praying for Hannan Shah's eternal peace, with the event attended by several BNP leaders and lawmakers.
