Dhaka:Jatiya Party Secretary General Barrister Shameen Haider Patwary has issued a demand for the government to arrest those responsible for the attack on their party Chairman GM Quader's residence in Uttara within 24 hours.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the attack occurred on Monday when a group of people targeted GM Quader's home in Sector 7, Uttara. The Jatiya Party claims the attack was a response to Quader's criticism of rising essential commodity prices. During a press conference, Patwary stated that the party would resort to protests if the perpetrators were not apprehended promptly.

Describing the incident as premeditated, Patwary alleged that the attackers vandalized the house while GM Quader and his family were inside, though they remained unharmed. He emphasized the Jatiya Party's right to political engagement, noting that it is a legal and registered entity.

The attack coincides with the Jatiya Party's plans to hold a long march and procession on September 26 to protest the increasing prices of essential goods and fuel, a plan that was not permitted by the authorities. Patwary also recalled previous incidents during the interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, where their party office was set on fire multiple times, urging the government to prevent a recurrence of such situations.

On the same day, a group identifying themselves as 'Anti-Autocracy General People' demonstrated outside Quader's residence, demanding his arrest. The protesters gathered at around 1040 am, chanting slogans and vandalizing windowpanes before dispersing ahead of police arrival. CCTV footage captured the scene, showing protesters throwing bricks and other objects at the house.
