Benapole:The body of Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton, who previously served as the general secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League's central committee, was handed over to his family at the Benapole checkpost on Sunday. The transfer took place under tight security measures.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the body arrived at the checkpost from Kolkata, India, around 11 a.m. Roton's elder brother, Nasimul Haider Chowdhury Milton, received the body after completing the necessary immigration and customs formalities.

Present at the handover were senior police officials, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and other administrative personnel. Security was heightened at the Benapole checkpost and along the border from the morning to prevent any incidents.

Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police, Saifur Rahman, stated that Roton had been suffering from lung cancer for an extended period. His condition worsened recently, leading to his admission to Ruby General Hospital in Kolkata, where he passed away on Saturday.

Roton had entered India on August 19, 2024, via the Haridaspur land port in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district to pursue medical treatment in Kolkata. He served as the general secretary of the central executive committee of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League from 2006 to 2011.
