Dhaka:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has directed police officials to act immediately against misleading social media posts and propaganda that could disrupt communal harmony during Durga Puja celebrations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the IGP on Sunday emphasized that adequate security measures have been implemented to ensure peaceful festivities nationwide. He highlighted a three-tier security arrangement covering the period before, during, and after the Puja celebrations.
The IGP urged vigilance to prevent any disruptions to communal harmony. He emphasized the importance of public engagement through community and beat policing and expressed optimism for safe and joyful celebrations, as seen in previous years.
Heads of various police units from Dhaka and other officials attended the meeting, with additional participation from metropolitan police commissioners, range deputy inspectors general, and district police superintendents via virtual means. Police officers were instructed to maintain contact with community leaders and conduct regular visits to Puja mandaps to ensure security.
Police administration is focused on preventing any incidents during the celebrations. Puja celebration committee leaders were encouraged to reach out to the national emergency service or local police stations if immediate help was required.
The IGP also advised organisers to ensure CCTV operations, adequate lighting, standby generators, and volunteer deployment at each mandap for continuous security. Uniformed and plainclothes officers, along with SWAT, CRT, QRT, crime scene vans, and bomb disposal units, are prepared to respond to emergencies. Monitoring cells will operate continuously at Police Headquarters and other units during the celebrations.
This year, approximately 33,000 Puja mandaps across the country are hosting Durga Puja celebrations.
