Cumilla:The body of 15-year-old Jannatul Tazmim, a seventh-grade student, was discovered in a paddy field in Lalmai upazila, Cumilla. Police confirmed she was strangled to death following a rape.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tazmim had boarded an auto-rickshaw in Cumilla city on Wednesday with the intention of heading home. The driver, identified as Sumon, diverted the vehicle to Jagatpur in Lalmai Upazila. During the ride, Tazmim sent her live location to her father via WhatsApp, asking for help. However, her father did not see the message as he was asleep.
Her body was found by locals the next morning, approximately 50 yards from the road, with a gamcha around her neck. Abdul Alim, Tazmim's father, tracked her phone to the Lalmai area and subsequently learned of her tragic death.
Police arrested Sumon in Chattogram on Friday and recovered Tazmim's iPhone during the arrest. Abdul Alim has filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at the Lalmai police station.
