Sylhet:The government will extend financial assistance to talented students from low-income families up to the university level, according to Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Choudhury announced the initiative during an educational assistance distribution event organized by the Sylhet Press Club and Noor Foundation. He emphasized that the aid would support students who cannot continue their education due to financial constraints and would also assist those who gain admission to foreign universities.

The event took place at the Aminur Rashid Choudhury Auditorium of the Press Club, where Sylhet Press Club President Muktabis Un Noor presided over the ceremony. Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mohammad Shamsul Islam and Vice President of Jalalabad Association, Dhaka, Tofael Khan participated as special guests, while Sylhet Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam moderated the session.

Choudhury highlighted the government's efforts to prevent the dropout of meritorious students from schools due to financial difficulties. He stated that the assistance program will cover not only Sylhet but also other remote areas across the country, ensuring support for talented children from poor families.

The minister further mentioned that the government is committed to eliminating financial obstacles for the development of talented children and is prioritizing health and education for underprivileged families. On Saturday, approximately Taka 48 lakh was distributed in the Sylhet region by the Labour Welfare Foundation as part of this commitment.

Additionally, financial support programs are being implemented nationwide for the medical treatment of low-income individuals, including rickshaw pullers. Choudhury also urged journalists to highlight the prospects and challenges of the Sylhet region, assuring that their reports would guide the government in taking necessary developmental actions.
