Dhaka:Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam has urged residents to promptly remove stagnant water from their homes and surrounding areas to prevent the spread of dengue.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Abdus Salam emphasized that water should not remain stagnant for more than three days. He advised that if residents are unable to clear the water themselves, they should inform the city corporation to take necessary action.

The call to action was made during a meeting with teachers and guardians at Motijheel Ideal Government Primary School in the capital. The meeting is part of a three-month dengue prevention and special cleanliness campaign involving students. As part of these efforts, special cleanliness drives are conducted every Saturday, supplementing regular cleaning activities as per government directives.

During the event, it was noted that the Cleaning Day was observed in all 75 DSCC wards simultaneously. Md. Abdus Salam highlighted that coordinated efforts by the city corporation and residents are crucial in maintaining clean roads and residential areas, thereby reducing the risk of dengue and other diseases.

He also stressed the importance of removing stagnant water following rainfall, noting that recent daily rainfall has increased the risk of water accumulation. He called on schools, colleges, scouts, rover scouts, girl guides, and social organizations to join the cleanliness campaign, underlining that keeping the city clean is a shared responsibility.

Md. Abdus Salam appealed for media support in raising public awareness, stating that the campaign's success hinges on active citizen participation and coordinated efforts. The event was attended by DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Khaybar Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Health Officer Dr. Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman, other officials, and local residents.
