Munshiganj:The scenic banks of the Dhaleshwari River, where it meets the Shitalakkhya River, hold significant potential for a modern river-based tourism center at Munshiganj Launch Terminal, a long-favored spot for local recreation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the area currently attracts hundreds of visitors daily from Munshiganj town and nearby regions. These visitors come to enjoy the natural beauty, fresh air, and spend leisure time with their families. The riverfront has become a popular gathering place, given the town's scarcity of open recreational spaces.

The confluence of the rivers, combined with consistent visitor numbers, presents an opportunity to develop a planned recreational and tourism destination. Proposed developments include modern facilities, landscaped green spaces, walking paths, seating arrangements, and children's entertainment options.

Recently, local lawmaker Mohammad Kamruzzaman, along with the district administration and the Department of Shipping, reclaimed parts of the terminal area from illegal structures, opening the space for public use. Headmaster Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman noted that a well-planned recreational center could become the town's main entertainment destination, providing both leisure and employment opportunities.

Advocate Sujon Haldar Joni highlighted the need for more recreational spaces in the town and suggested that the reclaimed area could be transformed into an attractive public space with pathways, seating, lighting, and greenery. Such developments would improve local recreational options and enhance Munshiganj's visual appeal.

Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi confirmed plans to develop a recreational center on the newly freed land, aiming to boost the town's scenic charm and local tourism. The plan includes walking, sitting, and recreational facilities along the riverbank to make the area more visitor-friendly.

Lawmaker Mohammad Kamruzzaman stated that 32 illegal structures were removed, and the development initiatives are intended to preserve the river's natural environment. This would promote river-based tourism and positively impact local economic activities, providing a much-needed recreational space for local families.
