Abu Dhabi:Bangladesh began the one-off Test against Afghanistan with a strong performance, reaching 134-1 at lunch on Day 1 at Sheikh Abu Jayed Stadium in the UAE.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tanzid played a pivotal role in this solid start by scoring a brisk 83 runs off 71 balls. His aggressive play helped Bangladesh maintain a scoring rate of six runs per over, putting pressure on Afghanistan, who are playing at their adopted venue.
Despite this early dominance, Afghanistan managed to regain some control before the interval. Pacer Ismat Alam dismissed Tanzid just before lunch, preventing him from reaching a century. Tanzid's innings included eight fours and four sixes, reminiscent of his century against Australia in a historic match for Bangladesh in Darwin a few months ago.
Tanzid's dynamic batting left his opening partner Shadman Islam as a mere observer initially, but Shadman picked up the pace after Tanzid's dismissal and was unbeaten on 45 at the lunch break. Alongside him, Mominul Haque was on 5.
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first. They included an extra spinner, Nayeem Hasan, in their lineup, anticipating that the pitch would favor spin bowlers after the second day.
