Rajshahi:Police have arrested two additional individuals in connection with the incident involving Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md Jawadul Haque being coerced into signing a resignation letter. The arrests took place in the Baharampur area of the city on Wednesday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrested individuals have been identified as Ali Akbar Hossain and Delwar Hossain, also known as Dulal. Gaziur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, stated that the arrests were made after analyzing video footage of the incident, which implicated the two men.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the incident through further analysis of the video footage. So far, a total of three individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
Previously, Abdus Salam, vice-president of the Rajpara thana unit of the BNP, was arrested in relation to the incident. The events unfolded on Tuesday when leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated Krishak Dal entered the Vice-Chancellor's office and compelled him to sign a pre-prepared resignation letter. Following this, he was removed from his office.
During the incident, Nazmul Hossain, the Vice-Chancellor's personal secretary, was assaulted when he attempted to protect the Vice-Chancellor and was also forced to sign a resignation letter. University officials and employees reportedly faced assault as well.
On Tuesday night, Nazmul Hossain filed a case with Rajpara Police Station, naming 50 to 60 unidentified individuals in connection with the incident. Subsequently, normal office activities at the university resumed on Thursday when the lock on the Vice-Chancellor's room was broken open in the presence of an executive magistrate.
