Cumilla:Police have recovered the body of a 15-year-old schoolgirl from a crop field in Jagatpur, Lalmai upazila, on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Jannatul Tazmin, a seventh-grade student at Farida Vidyayatan in Cumilla city and daughter of Abdul Alim from Churamankati in Jashore Sadar.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Officer-In-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman of Lalmai Police Station reported that the body was discovered around 7 a.m., approximately 50 yards from the road near Manumura jungle. An abandoned green CNG-run autorickshaw was found nearby.
Locals noticed the vehicle and subsequently found Jannatul's body lying beside a field ridge with a gamcha wrapped around her neck. Police, along with teams from the CID and PBI, collected evidence from the scene.
The girl's father disclosed that she had left their rented home in Cumilla on October 4, intending to visit a friend's house, and subsequently traveled to Cox's Bazar with the friend. He last communicated with her around 2 a.m. on Wednesday after she had returned to Cumilla. Following a break in contact, he traced her mobile phone to the Lalmai area before learning of her death.
Officer-In-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman stated that the body has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Investigations are ongoing, with several police teams working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
