Goa:Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar passed away from cardiac arrest at his home in Goa on Thursday morning. He was 75 years old.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Patekar had texted a friend at around 2:30 am, expressing that he was not feeling well. Due to the late hour, the friend did not see the message immediately. Patekar later called him, prompting the friend to visit his residence at about 4 am.
Upon arrival, the friend found Patekar sweating heavily and beginning to lose consciousness. A caretaker was sent to the hospital to fetch an ambulance, and an emergency medical team arrived shortly after.
Patekar was transported to Manipal Hospital between 4:20 am and 4:30 am, where doctors administered cardiac massage for 45 minutes to an hour but could not revive him. He was pronounced dead around 5:30 am.
The incident was treated as a medico-legal case, leading to a police complaint. His body was moved to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination.
Dr. Shekhar Salkar from Manipal Hospital noted that Patekar was in Goa with friends and a caretaker, without family present. Vishwanath Patekar, known as Nana, was born in Maharashtra on January 1, 1951. He began his film career in 1978 with "Gaman" and gained fame with movies like "Salaam Bombay!" and "Parinda."
