Dhaka:Bangladesh Bank has increased the amount of US dollar notes and coins that licensed money changers can sell to outgoing Bangladeshi nationals for private travel. The new limit is set at $3,000 per instance, an increase from the previous $2,000 cap.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this decision was made to better accommodate the foreign exchange needs of travelers. The change was announced through a circular from the Foreign Exchange Policy Department-2 of the central bank.

Travelers can now purchase up to $3,000 in US currency at a time within their annual private travel entitlement. Any remaining entitlement can be used to buy notes and coins in other freely convertible currencies, depending on availability.

The previous limit was dictated by FE Circular No. 31, dating back to November 19, 2024, which allowed for a maximum of $2,000 in foreign currency sales to travelers. Bangladesh Bank stated that other regulations for licensed money changers will remain the same.

The bank has instructed all licensed money changers and authorized foreign exchange dealers to inform their clients about the updated circular.
