Rajshahi:Health experts have emphasized the importance of eye health, highlighting the increasing vision problems caused by the prolonged use of digital devices and various occupational hazards.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the call for caution was made during a discussion held in front of the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Office in observance of World Sight Day. The event featured insights from Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr. SIM Rajiul Karim, who noted the rising eye strain associated with mobile phones, laptops, and tablets, particularly affecting children and adolescents.

Dr. Karim pointed out the shift in demographics, where vision problems are no longer predominantly among older individuals but are increasingly seen in children. He urged parents to limit their children's screen time and promote regular eye care practices. He also mentioned that approximately 220 crore people globally experience varying degrees of vision issues, underscoring the need for increased public awareness about eye health.

The event was organized by the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Office in collaboration with the BRAC Health Programme and VisionSpring. Arif Ahmed, the BRAC Health Programme Rajshahi Division Manager, presided over the discussion, which included participants such as Mohammad Abul Bashar, Al Mamun, and Tanmoy Kumar.

In addition to the discussion, a day-long medical camp was conducted to enhance awareness, screen individuals for vision problems, and provide necessary support to the community.
