Rajshahi University Students Nominated for Prime Minister’s Gold Medal

Rajshahi:A total of 28 students from Rajshahi University have been nominated for the Prime Minister's Gold Medal, recognizing their exceptional academic performance during the academic years 2019, 2020, and 2021.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a list of 469 students from universities nationwide selected for this prestigious award. Rajshahi University ranks second in terms of nominees, just behind Dhaka University, which has 30 nominees.

Among the Rajshahi University nominees, Md Kaderi Kibria from the Department of Statistics and Mosammat Mariam Khatun from the Department of Biochemistry achieved the highest CGPA of 3.98. Several other students, including Sumaiya Afsana Sumi from the Department of Agronomy and Mobashira Anjum from the Department of Genetic Engineering, secured a CGPA of 3.97.

Other notable nominees include Hasmatullah from the Department of Arabic with a CGPA of 3.91, Afsan Elahi from the Department of Law with 3.82, and Rabeya Basri from the Department of Crop Science and Technology with 3.97. Additionally, Atul Maharjan and Somi Rauniyar from the Department of Medical Sciences had their results published as percentages, scoring 80.79% and 78.84%, respectively.

The UGC published the list after a hiatus of over six years, with the total nominees comprising 178 from 2019, 141 from 2020, and 150 from 2021. Each recipient of the Prime Minister's Gold Medal receives a medal made of 4.5 grams of 22-carat gold, 10 grams of silver, and a certificate of honor. This award, initiated in 2005, aims to acknowledge outstanding academic achievements and inspire students to excel in higher education and research.
