Chattogram:Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali has highlighted the crucial role of sports in preventing drug abuse, terrorism, and social decline among the youth.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commissioner Shawkat Ali emphasized that sports, including cricket, are vital for the physical and mental development of young individuals. He noted that engaging in competitive sports helps develop discipline, leadership, mutual harmony, and a healthy competitive spirit.
The commissioner made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Rafi Smriti Metropolitan Junior (Under-18) Cricket League 2026, which took place at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Dampara Police Lines ground. The event was organized by the Chattogram Metropolitan Sports Association.
Commissioner Ali further stated that organizing competitive cricket at the Under-18 level would help nurture talented cricketers for the future, providing young players with opportunities to represent Chattogram at the national level.
Osman Gani Mansur, Editor and Publisher of The Daily People's View and father of the late Rafi, was present as a special guest. The event was also attended by Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed, Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury (BPM), and Deputy Police Commissioner (DB-South) Sheikh Shariful Islam, along with other senior CMP officials.
