Khulna:National Parliament Whip and Khulna-3 lawmaker Rakibul Islam Bakul emphasized the importance of fostering ideals through knowledge and reasoning in educational institutions, rather than through divisive means. He advocated for the presence of politics and freedom of expression in these settings, provided it does not lead to disorder.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bakul made these remarks as the chief guest at the divisional opening ceremony of the National University Inter-College Sports Competition-2026 held at the Government Brajolal College premises.
He further stressed that while political activities and differing opinions should be allowed, they must be approached with mutual respect to avoid deepening divisions. Bakul reiterated that principles should be grounded in knowledge and reason.
The event was chaired by National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A S M Amanullah, with Khulna-6 lawmaker Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Khulna-2 lawmaker Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal attending as special guests. Professor Saiful Islam, convener of the celebration committee and Principal of Government Brajolal College, along with teachers and students, were also present.
