Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the importance of ensuring due recognition and dignity for genuine freedom fighters and upholding the true history and glory of the Liberation War.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President made this statement during a meeting with a 12-member delegation from the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council, led by Convener Bir Muktijoddha Naim Jahangir, at Bangabhaban.
The President stated that the nation holds deep respect for the sacrifices of freedom fighters and stressed the state's responsibility to preserve their honor and dignity. He highlighted the need for an accurate list of genuine freedom fighters and their recognition. He urged caution in preserving and presenting the history of the Liberation War to avoid any ambiguity.
He further called on everyone to uphold the historical values of the country's independence and sovereignty, stressing the importance of continuing the democratic journey while prioritizing national interests.
The delegation requested the President's support for the welfare of freedom fighters and expressed concern over the recognition of fake freedom fighters during a previous regime, which they claimed distorted the true history and spirit of the Liberation War. They also informed the President of their plan to organize a peaceful rally.
The President assured the delegation that their concerns regarding the welfare and dignity of freedom fighters would be duly considered. The meeting included other delegation members and the President's Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary.
