Dhaka:The Committee on Public Undertakings of the 13th national parliament convened its 4th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting included participation from committee members and Whips Miah Nuruddin Ahmed and Md. Akhtaruzzaman Miah, as well as members Mst. Tahsina Rushdir, Khondokar Abu Ashfaq, Md Qaisar Ahmed, Biswas Jahangir Alam, Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, and Md Kamal Hossain.
The committee evaluated the activities of the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripokhha (RAJUK), focusing on ongoing housing and infrastructure development projects, financial management, and audit reports.
Recommendations were made to expedite the allocation of plots to those affected by land acquisition for the Purbachal New Town Project. An investigation into past plot allocation irregularities and the role of middlemen was emphasized, with directives to expand housing through the construction of multi-storied apartments rather than new land-intensive projects.
The committee also advised taking strict measures against unauthorized building constructions and commercial activities in residential areas of Dhaka. RAJUK was instructed to enforce laws strictly, conduct regular monitoring, and employ mobile courts to prevent customer harassment by real estate developers.
Further emphasis was placed on achieving sustainable urbanization with integrated utility and underground cabling systems, fire safety in new commercial buildings, and adequate facilities for restrooms and prayer. The preservation of Dhaka's lakes and the evaluation of expanding solar power systems in the capital were also recommended.
Concerns over audit delays led to a call for swift completion and resolution of audit objections through modern digital systems. Officials from the Comptroller and Auditor General's office, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, RAJUK, the National Housing Authority, and the JS Secretariat were present at the meeting.
