Dhaka:Japan has pledged US$145,000 to enhance mobile tuberculosis screening services in Dhaka's slum areas, aiming to provide diagnostic services to approximately 9,000 people annually and connect undiagnosed patients with necessary medical care.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, signed the grant contracts with icddr,b at the Embassy of Japan. The funding is part of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Through this initiative, icddr,b will acquire a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Fujifilm portable digital X-ray unit. These resources will enable mobile teams to offer TB screening directly to communities with limited healthcare access, supporting earlier detection and treatment of tuberculosis and helping to prevent the spread of infection.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Saida emphasized Japan's focus on human security, highlighting the importance of protecting people's lives and dignity. He noted that the project reflects this commitment by making essential health services more accessible to those who face healthcare barriers.
