Dhaka:Newly appointed Chargé d'Affaires of the Singapore High Commission to Bangladesh, Philip Ong, recently met with Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman to discuss strengthening economic and commercial ties between the two nations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting involved discussions on expanding trade, enhancing economic cooperation, and exploring the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement. A key focus was on the digital transformation of Bangladesh's foreign trade, utilizing Singapore's TradeTrust platform.
Both parties acknowledged the involvement of Bangladeshi banks in the digital initiative, following a circular from the central bank. To further this effort, a joint Working Committee will be established, including representatives from Bangladesh Bank and relevant Singaporean authorities, to accelerate the digitization of foreign trade.
The Bangladesh Bank governor emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues for trade and economic cooperation, aiming for a more balanced and diversified trade relationship. The Singaporean delegation included members from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Enterprise Singapore, while senior officials from Bangladesh Bank were also present at the meeting.
