Government Focuses on Health System Reform and Vaccination

Dhaka:State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M A Muhit announced that the government is actively working to tackle the challenges involved in reforming the country's health system.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Muhit emphasized the special importance given to healthcare in the Prime Minister's election campaign and manifesto. He stated that alongside disease prevention, efforts are being made to boost the health sector to enhance the productivity of the nation's people.

During a visit to a vaccination session of the special Measles-Rubella Catch-up Campaign-2026 at the Korail T and T playground in the capital, Dr. Muhit affirmed the government's commitment to overcoming any obstacles with the cooperation of both local and international organizations.

He highlighted the government's focus on continuing vaccination programs, noting that two crore children have been vaccinated under the Measles-Rubella program. The next goal is to vaccinate an additional 35 lakh children within the coming month, ensuring no child is left without vaccination.

Dr. Muhit expressed gratitude to the US government, Gavi, and UNICEF for their support in the vaccination program. He also pointed out the successful outreach to children in remote hill and char areas due to collective efforts.

Regarding dengue prevention, Dr. Muhit urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in their homes and workplaces throughout the year, not just during outbreaks.

Present at the event were US Charge d'Affaires in Bangladesh Eric Geelan, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imru-al-Quais, and UNICEF Bangladesh representatives.

Md Safiqul Islam Khan stated that the DNCC is prioritizing the vaccination program and identifying children who missed previous vaccinations by visiting households. The DNCC is coordinating with the Directorate General of Health Services and relevant stakeholders to ensure the vaccination of remaining children in the final phase of the Measles-Rubella Campaign.
