Dhaka:The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has called for enhanced quality and nutrition in the primary school feeding program. This recommendation includes taking disciplinary action against those accountable for any shortcomings.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee's recommendation emerged during its first meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by Mahmuda Habiba.
The committee also emphasized the need to ensure all children in the country are enrolled in primary schools. It urged swift action to fill all vacant headteacher positions in government primary schools.
Discussions during the meeting covered sector-wise allocation and expenditure plans related to the Directorate of Primary Education, Bureau of Non-Formal Education, Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Trust, National Academy for Primary Education, and the Monitoring Unit for Implementation of Compulsory Primary Education under the ministry. Proposed budget allocations and expenditure plans through June 30, 2027, were presented via PowerPoint.
Committee members provided input on the presentation and made several recommendations regarding primary education, including the introduction of compulsory moral education at the primary level. The committee also stressed the importance of properly implementing budget allocations across different sectors within the ministry.
Additionally, the committee recommended that all its members conduct on-site visits to primary schools during class hours to observe their operations.
